I ♥ Promarkers Challenge #21 - Stripes

Today it's the start of a new challenge over on I ♥ Promarkers.  This week is challenge #21 which is sponsored by Letraset and we are asked to use stripes on our projects.

This week you are free to use your own choice of image, layout and colours, just make sure you have some stripes on your project somewhere! 

For my DT card I decided to use some stripey papers in these lovely shades of pink and brown - one of my all time favourite colour combos.  The edging strips were punched with a Martha Stewart border punch (the darker strip is actually a brown/bronze pearly card, but for some reason it looks black on the picture). 

This is a magnolia stamp from Art Cure which I've had since I first began working with rubber stamps.  It makes a great backround but is also quite striking given 'centre stage' on a card. The image was coloured (of course) with Promarkers and cut out, leaving a tiny white border all around, then attached with silicone glue.  The oval mattes were actually left over from another card I created recently, so I was very pleased to be able to use up some of the bits and pieces off my desk!

Tuesday with Cupcake

This is the project I've created for my Tuesday spot on the Whimsical Ink Sorority Blog for Queen Kat Designs Blog Hop.   If you'd like to do the Hop and see all the amazing creations from the DT, just start here and follow the links.

This week the DT were tasked with creating a 3D project for the Hop.  Although we are meant to use some of the stamps that have been around for a while, I just couldn't resist using the June WIS Kit for mine (shhh.. don't tell the Queen!) - well, you know what a rebel I am !! 

This adorable mermaid is called Cupcake, isn't she a real sweetie?  I love her sitting on top of her yummy cupcake and the kit comes complete with some great sentiments too.

I decided to make a 'stationery set in a box' as a gift for a friend who has a birthday coming up soon.   I'll be making a set of cards with which to fill the inside - together with a few matching gift tags - to complete the gift before I give it to her.  This picture shows the inside of the box and all the little sections to hold various things, including the tiny pocket to hold postage stamps at the bottom right.

I stamped Cupcake Mermaid twice, coloured the images with Promarkers and Copics and cut them out using plain nestabilities dies, round for the front and oval for the inside image.  I then matted the image layers on to scalloped layers cut from white card with more nesties then coloured with Promarkers to exactly match the colours on the image.  A little Glossy Accents gives the bubbles texture and added interest.

The box was created using two 12x12 sheets of doubled sided heavy weight paper and is based on a tutorial on the Split Coast Stampers website.  The decorative edges were cut with a Martha Stewart border punch and the ribbon, flowers and half beads were from my stash.

Inside, Cupcake is attached to the front of a post-it note holder - I also stamped the tiny cupcake with candle image from the WIS Kit, coloured it and applied inside the cover of the holder as a little extra surprise when the holder is opened.

Happy Monday morning to you and welcome to this week's Queen Kat Designs monday blog hop.  You should have found your way here via the lovely Lara's blog, if not you should head back to the start so you don't miss any of the amazing projects the Design Team have to share with you today.

This week we have this fabulous picture to inspire us and we are revisiting some of the fantastic stamps that have been around for a while, rather than new releases.  I think pink and brown is my all time most favourite colour combo and these colours look so luxurious in the picture - I'd love to decorate my room this way, that wallpaper is scrumptious!  

I do so love Monarch Mia Mermaid and haven't used her in a while, so she was the perfect choice for this week's project.  You should know me by now and realise that I love playing around with shapes and layouts and this week is no exception!  I cut oval apertures from the centre of 4 layers of heavy weight patterned paper, with reducing sizes of nestabilities dies.  The stepped aperture leads your eye down to the star of the show - Mia sitting in her lovely undersea garden.  I edged each layer with some Stardust Stickles for added bling.

I've included the picture on the right, which was taken from a sideways angle, to demonstrate the layers more clearly for you. 

I cut the flowers, swirls and fronds from white card using some Marianne Designs dies, then coloured them with Promarkers to exactly match the colours I used on the image.   I then layered them up and added more Stardust Stickles to the top layer of the flowers.  The sentiment is from one of the WIS kits which I stamped in brown ink then cut with a plain oval nestie and layered it over a matte cut with a very slightly larger scalloped oval.

Yet more.....Wedding cards that is!

As I promised yesterday, I'm sharing with you today  the wedding card and gift wallet I created for my son to give to my niece and her husband at their recent wedding.

I used this lovely Lili of the Valley bride and groom in horse drawn carriage stamp for this set and the same Martha Stewart border punch as for the previous card and wallet set.

Coloured again with Promarkers, cut out with a circle nestabilities die and matted over a silver layer cut with a slightly larger scalloped circle nestie die.

A simple but effective layout I think and I love this sweet stamp.

Weddings, weddings, weddings .......

Those of you who have visited my blog recently will be aware that my Niece was married a few days ago.  I thought I'd share with you the cards and gift wallets I made for the bride and groom. 

I created a gatefold card from a piece of white A4 card, using a Martha Stewart deep edge border punch to create a lacy edge.  White organza ribbon was attached using these lovely roses from Wild Orchid Crafts and filigree hearts cut from white pearl paper using a Martha Stewart punch, and tied in a bow at the front to keep the card closed.

The picture on the right shows the box I made, in which to present the card.  Created from matte silver cardstock and using a spellbinders shapeabilities frame die and some more of the Wild Orchid Crafts flowers. 

For the inside of the card I used the adorable bride and groom stamp from Lili of the Valley and also the church stamp from Magnolia.  Using the masking technique so that the church appears to be behind the wedding couple, I then coloured the image with Promarkers and Distress Ink to create the effect of a sky.    The scalloped frame around the image was created with a shapeabilities frame die.  The pink roses on the sides is a Magnolia stamp and I printed a personalised sentiment to add at the bottom.

Finally I created this matching wallet to hold money given as a wedding gift to the happy couple.

I ♥ Promarkers Challenge #20

Wow, it's wednesday again already!  Boy are the weeks are flying by fast this year - maybe it's because I'm getting OLD!!!!!  So, as it's wednesday we have another challenge for you over on I ♥ Promarkers.  There's a great sketch to work with this week - check out the blog for full details - and the prize this week is sponsored by Digi Doodle Shop.  The other DT cards are posted on the blog, I'm sure you'll be inspired to have a go yourself this week if you check them out, we'd love to have you join us! 

I decided to use the adorable Boy and Dog image for my card this week - it reminds me of my grandsons.  Just click on the Digi Doodle Shop link above if you'd like to get this image, or any of the other lovely digi images for yourself. 

The image was coloured with ProMarkers and touches of Glossy Accents added on the dog's nose and eyes before cutting out with a nestabilities oval die.  The image layer was added over a blue layer cut with a slightly larger scalloped oval nestie.  The papers and buttons were from my stash and the sentiment is from a tiny set of stamps by Studio G and was the perfect finishing touch for this card.

Inspired Anna Sapheer

As this week is Inspiration week for the Queen Kat Design DT, we have all be working with this fabulous picture to inspire our projects. What aspect of it caught your eye first? I'd love to know, just leave me a comment and let me know what it inspires you to create. 

On first view, I immediately thought 'spotlight' technique - highlighting just a part of a monochromatic image in colour for maximum impact. I think the dark red is stunning against the shades of grey and so, quite simply, selected these two colours for my project.
The fantastic Anna Sapheer was newly released this month and I thought she was perfect for my project for the Whimsical Ink Sorority blog as part of today's blog hop.

I coloured Anna with ProMarkers, using 'artistic licence' and giving her grey skin rather than introducing another colour to the card. Doesn't her red hair look stunning against her grey skin? I layered the stamped image over a piece of cardstock which I coloured with a ProMarker to exactly match the colours in the image.

The background paper is from my stash, as are the small white roses. I created the heart embellishment, from a piece of mountboard, in my meltpot, using pearl UTEE and a tiny amount of platinum UTEE. I was very pleased with the finished marbled effect!

Sadie's Been Framed !

Welcome to this week's Queen Kat Designs monday blog hop.  You should have arrived here after being inspired by the lovely Lara's project, if not I'd like to send you back to the QKD blog to start at the beginning, so that you don't miss out on any of the fantastic DT creations.

This week we have a colour theme to work with which is one of my favourite combinations - Blue and Brown, I just love how these two colours compliment each other so well.

I haven't used the lovely Sadie's Victory stamp for a few weeks so I thought I'd dig her out of my stash to use for today's project.

Up until a couple of years ago, my Dad did a lot of marquetry work, using luscious wood veneers to create beautiful pictures.  He very kindly gave me all the veneer he had left and I have kept them in my stash, intending to use them in my projects at some point. 

I decided the veneers would be ideal to use for this week's lovely colour combo.  First, using a set of nestabilities oval dies, I cut out a frame from (what I believe to be) a sheet of dark brown walnut wood veneer.   I then stamped Sadie on to a piece of very pale coloured veneer and coloured her with ProMarkers before attaching to the 'cut out' oval created when I cut the frame.  I 'varnished' the frame with Sepia Glossy Accents and attached this over the image layer with silicone glue to raise it up a little.

The background paper is from my stash and the flowers were cut from Grungepaper and coloured with ProMarkers to match the colours I used on Sadie.  I added some Star Dust Stickles around the outside of each petal on the flowers and attached small aqua coloured half pearls in the centre of each one before attaching them to the frame.  The Sentiment is from the May WIS kit and was attached with silicone glue.

Girly Girl - Sugar Bowl Challenge #37

Happy Fathers' Day to all those Dads out there, hope the sun is shining on you today, it certainly is in Cornwall - and it promises to be a great day.  I am very lucky this year to have my Dad staying here with me for a holiday and as my hubby is also home, I get to share today with two Dads!

I posted up the FD card I made for my Dad a while ago, so today's card is the one I've created as my entry for the Challenge #37 over on the Sugar Nellie Sugar Bowl Challenge Blog - check out the site for full details. 

We have a great sketch to work with this week and the shaped layer on the sketch got me rummaging through my box of nestabilities for the octagonal die set.  There is the optional theme of 'Girly and Feminine' and so I selected the adorable 'Daisy with Pram' stamp for my card - you don't see so many little girls pushing their dollies out for a walk in the pram these days - such a shame I think, as I recall hours of happy fun playing with my own dollies when I was young!

After I'd coloured the image with ProMarkers and Copics, I cut it out with one of the nestability dies and punched ribbon slots on either side.  The background papers are from my stash and I cut some lacy strips with Martha Stewart punches and layered them up under the ribbon.  I added touches of Glossy Accents to the pram wheels and Daisy's bows in her hair.  The flowers are from my stash and include some from Wild Orchid Crafts, and I added some leaves punched with another MS punch.  I attached the little general sentiment so that the card can be used for any occasion.

Wedding Special

Last week it was my lovely Niece's wedding day in Falmouth, Cornwall. 

It was a real family affair with everything from invitations to place cards, favours and table decorations and especially the spectacular cake, created by members of the family.  The bride's brother was also the official photographer.

The weather was fantastic and everyone had a truly fabulous time, starting from the evening before when, after our evening meal, we all trouped across the road to the lovely beach and lit paper lanterns - most of which floated spectacularly up into the night sky - great fun!  Only the Bride and (one of the three!) Best Man were brave enough to go for a paddle!

I couldn't believe how calm the Bride was as we helped her to dress for the ceremony next morning.  The Bridesmaids both looked fabulous.

The Bride was totally radiant and I thought the Groom would burst with love and pride when she walked down the 'aisle' to his side.  I know they will 'live happily every after' as they were just 'made for each other'.  I wish them all the luck in the world as they set off on their life's journey together.

We had a fantastic meal and the Father of the Bride's speech had us all reaching for a tissue and laughing at the same time - well done Bruv!

Following the First Dance, we all set about enjoying a fabulous party, including a few visits to the Sweetie Shop.

There was no shortage of hands ready to catch the bouquet as the Bride tossed it over her shoulder!

I won't bore you with any more wedding piccies now, I may post up a few more another day!
