I ♥ Promarkers Challenge #34 - Pearls & Swirls

Here we are again, another wednesday and the last in September already.  How the year is flying by and we are rapidly approaching October and the Halloween season.

This week Challenge #34 on I ♥ Promarkers is sponsored by Pollycraft and we have the theme of 'Pearls & Swirls'.

For my DT card this week I've used this adorable image from Pollycraft called 'Ginger Pumpkin'.  I love how her little kitty is peeking around the top of the pumpkin.

I coloured her with Promarkers and added Glossy Accents to the pumpkin before cutting her out with a nestabilities die, adding Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink while the die was still in place.  The purple background layer and the orange oval layer were embossed with Cuttlebug embossing folders and the black swirl was cut using a Tim Holtz for Sizzix bigz die.  I added a little Diamond Stickles to the Prima flower and punched the fronds from black card using a Martha Stewart punch.  The beads and pearls are from my stash and the cobweb is a Magnolia stamp.

Back to School - with a difference!

Well dear reader, September is almost over and we are well and truly into the Autumn/Winter season.  Summer holidays are just a distant memory for many people and the children are settled into a new school year.  The Queen Kat Designs DT blog hop today
has the theme of  'Back to School' and there are so many ways to interpret this theme.  As part of the hop my card is posted on the Whimsical Ink Sorority blog and if you'd like to do the whole hop just go here and follow the links.

Now you may have to run to keep up with my creative process for this one!!!

I often work on planning my projects by jotting down words, colours, anything that the theme brings to mind. I just allow my mind to wander in whatever direction it chooses, hoping that I will finally arrive at something usable.

The school year starts in the Autumn/Fall so I immediately thought of all the fabulous rich colours that surround us at this time of year. The trees are all changing from their summer greens to an amazing array of reds, golds and oranges. The word 'school' also made me think of fish ! Still with me? I hope so!

I now had rich colours and fish on my ideas sheet and thought of the beautiful QKD Koi Pond stamp which was perfect to fit my idea. I also have this great Cuttlebug embossing folder of Koi in water, which again was ideal for my project.

I coloured the beautiful Koi Pond in autumnal shades with Copics and Promarkers and used a piece of DCWV 'Taj Mahal' paper for the background layer. I cut out a piece of green card with an oval nestabilities die and embossed it with the Koi folder. This lovely distressed Prima flower has been in my embellishment box for a while, and again, the colours are just right for my project. I punched out some leaves from white card and coloured them with Promarkers then added the gems and gem flowers to the bottom right to balance the layout.

Just Cute Bears Challenge #36 - Swirls & Bling

Happy Sunday morning to you, hope it's a great day whatever you have planned!

This week Just Cute Bears Challenge #36 has the theme of  'Swirls & Bling'.  For my DT card I used this sweet girly bear with her huge teapot, from Cuddly Buddly. 

The background paper is from the DCWV Pocketful of Posies stack.  I coloured the image with Copics and Promarkers, adding touches of Stickles and Glossy Accents before cutting her out with a deckle edge rectangle nestabilities die.  The image was then attached to a layer of golden yellow card cut with a larger die from the same set.  The lacy edges top and bottom were cut with a Martha Stewart border punch from cream card and the swirls punched out using an EK Success punch.  I finally added amber coloured gems in two sizes to the swirls and sentiment to give me swirls and bling for the theme.

Nature's Paintbrush

Good morning dear reader, I hope you have a great weekend planned and that this week has been a good one for you.

This week's challenge over on the Craft Mad and Loving it group on Craftbubble, we are asked to use only words on our projects, no images.

I decided to use autumnal shades on this challenge card for two reasons.  Firstly, because the recent chilly mornings have definitely made me feel that Autumn is here and secondly, my very first Stamping Up! order arrived including this really lush ribbon and I just couldn't wait to use some of it! 

The background paper is a magazine freebie, the words stamp is by Funstamps which I picked up from a bargain bucket at my local craft shop - The Art Centre in Kelly Bray - for a couple of pounds.  I cut the swirly leaves using a Marianne Designs die and the rust colour card under the sentiment layer was cut using a deckle edge rectangle nestabilities die and the gems and length of mesh were in my stash.

It's good to stretch yourself and do something a little different for a change and this was a great challenge for doing this.

I ♥ Promarkers Challenge #33 - White on White

Are you ready for another I ♥ Promarkers challenge?  I do hope so as Challenge #33 launches today.

This week's theme is 'White on White' - the only colour allowed is on the image, the rest of your project must be all white.  Our sponsor this week is Digi Doodle Shop's Best and this sweet Candy House image is available from their on-line store here if you'd like to get it for yourself.  Of course, if you enter this week you could be the lucky winner of a voucher to spend in their store.

I decided to create a small sweetie bag holder for my project this week.  The side-on view to the right shows the inside a little more clearly.   There are sweeties in mine, but you could put anything you wish inside the cello bag, possibly a gift card, or some stamped images or ribbons if it is a gift for a crafting pal.

Colourful Verona

ORANGE, GREEN, PURPLE,

BLACK and WHITE. 

Now I know this collection of colours screams "Halloween", but me being such a rebel, I decided not to make a Halloween card for the Queen Kat Designs blog hop this week!  As part of the Hop, my card is posted on the Whimsical Ink Sorority blog and if you'd like to do the hop just start here and follow the links.


It's so long since I brought the lovely Verona out to play from my stamp stash that I thought I'd use her for today's project.

This fabulously wild piece of colourful paper has been languishing in my stash for a long time - I just didn't want to use it up, but it was just so perfect for today's challenge as it has all the right colours in the design.

I coloured Verona with a mixture of Copics and Promarkers, keeping the background very pale to emphasise the main image. Verona is such an elegant, chic and serene mermaid and I love the contrast with the wildly eclectic background paper. I added a piece of this lovely shiny orange ric rac ribbon from my stash and coloured some white flowers with an orange Promarker to match the paper. The fronds were cut with a Martha Stewart punch from white card and coloured to match the image. The final touch was adding Diamond Stickles to the flowers, the frills on Verona's outfit and the bubbles in the background.

Just Cute Bears DT news

I'm so excited as today I can let you know my fabulous news!  I've joined the Just Cute Bears Challenge Design Team - Yay!!!  It is going to be so much fun to work with the team on future challenges and I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm still finding my way around, but I've created this card for the latest challenge #35 which has the theme of  'Punch it' and we're asked to use punched and/or diecut elements on our projects.

For my card I used this adorable Dexter the Bear stamp by Sugar Nellie, don't you just want to pick him up and have a cuddle?

He's coloured with Copics, the background papers are magazine freebies and I added a layer cut with a Martha Stewart border punch down the lefthand side.  The layer behind Dexter was cut using one of the new Nestabilities Beaded Circles dies and coloured with Scattered Straw Distress Ink whilst still in the die.

Christmas Kiss

I'm back!  from my trip 'north of the border' that is!  Our trip to Scotland last week was very busy but we got to spend time with lots of relatives who we haven't seen for many years.  The weather was unkind to us at the start of the week, but, following a sharp hail storm on tuesday, it improved a great deal by the time we were leaving for home.  We were able to spend a couple of hours at the Roman Fort at Chesters on the way home.  The fort is along Hadrian's Wall and part of it was actually built into the wall.  I'll share a few piccies of the trip over the next few days for anyone who is interested.

I hope you've enjoyed the posts I pre-scheduled to publish whilst I was away and it appears they all posted at the right time!

I've missed my crafting and couldn't wait to get stuck right in almost as soon as I arrived home.  Yesterday a new sketchie challenge launched on the 'Craft Mad and Loving It' group on Craftbubble.  This week there's a sketch and the theme of 'Santa' for our projects.

This jolly chap and his cute companion plus the sprigs of holly are from a set of stamps by Kan Ban, and I cut the image out using a bauble shaped nestabilities die.  I coloured the image with Promarkers and Copics, adding Glossy Accents dusted with Glamour Dust on the hat, jacket and scarf trims. 

The background paper was a magazine freebie from last Christmas and the small scalloped squares were cut with another nestie die set, the snowflakes punched from a scrap of gold mirror card and the sentiment from a small Christmas set of stamps I have in my collection.

It's nice to go away, but soooo... nice to be back in my own bed and be reunited with my craft stash!  Does that make me a sad person? !!

I am so pleased to see new Followers have joined my blog while I was away, welcome to you and thanks to my regular Followers for continuing to support me in my crafting journey - I do so appreciate you all :o)

Neko Chan

This 'cute as a button' kitty is one of the fabulous new designs by Che Gilson for Queen Kat Designs.  I just adore Che's artwork and Neko Chan has got to be one of my favourites so far, she is just too sweet!

I based my card on the sketch for last week on the Craft Mad and Loving It group challenge on Craftbubble.  As I'm away from home at the moment, I had only the few colours of Promarkers that my Dad has in his stash to use.  It is amazing how you can manage with very few colours in an emergency!  At least I now know that I can use Spice brown to add a darker shadow to areas coloured in red!

I snaffled some pieces of oriental themed papers and corregated card from Dad's stash too, plus a short length of gold ribbon and some gold shaped sequins.  Finally I added a little Glossy Accents to her shoes, comb, hair accessories and bag to give them added dimension and cut the image out with a scalloped oval nestabilities die.

I ♥ Promarkers Challenge #32 - Rip It Up!

For this week's challenge over on I ♥ Promarkers, there's a sketch and a theme - both of them by little old me!!!  Our sponsor this week is Simon Says Stamp and the winner will have $15 to spend in their online store.

I had so much fun with my DT card for this challenge - this is the type of card I had in mind when I designed the sketch and the 'Rip it Up' theme. 

I used this great Manga Goth Girl stamp from Sugar Nellie, she came to live with me very recently thanks to the Funky Kits sale. 


I coloured her with Promakers and added Spica glitter pen over parts of the image.  I punched holes in the tartan paper with my Cropadile and threaded a length of thonging through to lace the two pieces of paper together.  I used Black Soot Distress Ink around edges of the base card and the bottom layer of paper was distressed and torn around the edges.  The larger tear in the top right stapled back together and I distressed around the image layer with Stormy Skies DI. The sentiment is from a great set of 'Anyone Can Stamp' by Hero Arts.  I love this black on purple lace effect paper from the Papermania Aqua Capsule Collection pack and just tore around the edges of the scrap used under the image layer.
