A couple of Challenge Entries

Hi Peeps, it's been a while since I posted on here, but I've a couple of projects to share with you today.

A short while ago my lovely crafting pal Kathy let me know the name of a stamp set she'd used on a card I was admiring.  She then sent me a link to the set for a good price, of course another set jumped into my basket whilst browsing the site oopsie !  The 'accidentally' (ahem) purchased set was Stampers' Anonymous 'Flower Garden' CMS215'.

When I 'fessed up to kathy, she said that was on her must-have list so headed off to purchase it.  She then told her pal Sarn what she'd bought and (just like a crafters pass-the-parcel) Sarn also purchased a set. Then she thought that as all three of us had the same stamp set, it might be nice to challenge me, kathy and herself to create a project using the set.  Oh what fun !

My set took a little longer to arrive than theirs so there has been a slight delay with makes, but I've now been busy.  Do click on the links in the above paragraph to check out both of their fabulous creations.

Although there are quite a few different flowers in the set, the favourite of all of us is the Cone Flower, so this is the one we've all used.

For my first card, I decided to use a water colour background technique that is new to me - pressing a Distress Ink pad onto a piece of acetate, spritzing with water then smooshing it onto the card/watercolour paper, drying each colour before adding the next.

DI's used : Mowed Lawn, Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade

Once dry I stamped the cone flower over the background using black Archival ink.  I then painted it using Fossilised Amber, Carved Pumpkin, Spiced Marmalade and Forest Moss for the stem and used Forest Moss to apply colour through a That's Crafty Dinky Stencil all over.  I then added a sentiment stamped directly over the background using a Rubber Necker stamp from their Freehand Frame Phrase set 900.  Swiped the black ink pad around the edges and attached to a black 5x5 base card.

I was fairly pleased with finished card, but felt the background was a little too colourful and busy.  So I made another, this time using just Mustard Seed through the stencil.  The cone flower was coloured with the same DIs as the previous card

I think I prefer this version of the background.  The sentiment is from a set which I think was a magazine freebie.  Before attaching the painted panel to the black base card, I used another of my new stash items - Gansai Tambi Starry colours, using the Red Gold, applied through the same dinky stencil.

There we go then, two cards using the same tools and materials.  I hope both Kathy and Sarn are happy that I've managed to join in with the challenge at last.

Thanks for dropping by.

Hugs
Wynneth x

Love both the cards. I use the swooshing technique on scrapbook pages, especially if I've used texture paste and stencils.

I really like both of them Wynneth and they both have two totally different looks from the same stamp.
I think the second has a more softer look but both equally as good. Love the background. Have a good weekend ahead
